Allow plenty of time at Malaga Airport prior to your scheduled departure time, especially during the summer high season, as it is a popular and busy airport and queues at security and passport control can be inevitable. Check screens at the airport to see from which gate your flight is departing and ensure that you are through passport control at least 45 minutes before flight departure time. The Departures Hall and Check In desks are located on the upper floor of Malaga Airport.
There are various transport options for your onward journey from Malaga Airport to nearby Malaga city, Torremolinos, Benalmadema, Fuengirola, Marbella or other destinations in Spain. The most convenient are the Malaga car hire service or Malaga Transfer service, which can both be reserved in advance to avoid waiting in queues upon arrival for buses or taxis, and you can get away quickly to start your trip.
There are Malaga Airport buses to most Costa del Sol resorts and Malaga City Centre, but some only run once a day or every couple of hours, less regularly on Sundays and Public Holidays. They leave from the forecourt outside the Arrivals area in Terminal 3. They travel into the central bus station where you can catch a taxi.
Public buses C19 and A75 travel from Malaga Airport to the centre, with stops on the way. The bus from Malaga Airport to Marbella Bus Station runs approximately every 2 hours. Public buses run to Torremolinos and Benalmadena, with many stops on the route. There is a daily bus to Seville and one twice a day to Granada.
There can often be queues for these buses and they get very packed, especially with so many people carrying luggage. Families with small children and suitcases may find the journey by bus quite difficult. Choosing a car hire Malaga Airport service or Malaga Airport Transfer is a better option, you can travel directly to your hotel rather than wasting your holiday waiting for your bus or in the queues.
If you are travelling during high season, particularly during summertime and the busy tourist season, options such as the car hire Malaga Airport and Malaga Airport Transfer service are highly recommended, as queues for public city transport buses are long, and the Andalucian sun can be very strong. Save your time and energy to enjoy your Malaga trip rather than waste it in queues at the airport.
The train runs from Malaga Airport directly to Malaga city centre and along the coast to Fuengirola every 30 minutes. Hotels and apartments are often not close to the local train station, so you may need to catch a taxi onward to your holiday destination.
Upon arrival at Malaga Airport if you choose to go by taxi, you will find the taxi rank directly outside the Arrivals exit of the new Terminal 3 building. There are also illegal private taxi drivers who hang around near the door; the official taxi cabs are lined up together visible from the exit door.
The taxi fares from Malaga Airport may vary, so be sure to ask for a quote before setting off in the taxi, rather than getting a nasty surprise at the other end. Additional supplements are charged for large suitcases, entry or exit to the airport, weekends and public holidays and night travel.
During the tourist season, there are often long queues at the Malaga Airport taxi ranks, to avoid these queues, we recommend considering either the car hire Malaga Airport or the private Malaga Airport Transfer service directly to your journey's end. They are the ideal way to save your time and energy, after a tiring flight, to start off your stress free holiday in the easiest way.
